Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I haven’t actually finished the third book in the trilogy (Finale, pictured here) but I honestly feel comfortable going ahead and rating the series anyway, it’s that good😬

This series has magic and mystery and just the right touch of chaos (think: Alice in Wonderland magical vibes) to keep you both fascinated and on your toes. The characters were likable and fun and I loved the romance woven into each of the stories.

If you are a fan of YA fantasy, this series is a must-read! I really should have started it sooner! (recipe picture can be found at the end of this blog post!

Content Rating: PG-13 for violence, a few heavy topics and some innuendo

Synopsis:

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful - and cruel - father. Now Scarlett's father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season's Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Recipe: This book’s descriptions of food were SO much fun! They helped create the magical atmosphere and I found myself longing to try some of what Scarlett and Tella were tasting and experiencing. This recipe is actually called Praline-Apple Bread but it reminded me so much of the burnt sugar apple cider Scarlett had during Caraval that I had to share! Thank you to myrecipes.com and my friend Anna for this recipe. 😍
