The Fall Girl by Marcia Clark

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Thank you to NetGalley + RB Media for this gifted copy. I ended up really enjoying this one! The pacing in the first half is pretty slow. I feel like we got stuck in the weeds a bit about some of the background surrounding the characters/cases but the pay-off ended up being worth it once I started enjoying the character development and the uncovering of the mystery. By the end of the book I was loving the characters and their relationships and the ending of the book was *chef's kiss*. I felt so satisfied and quite literally smiled during some of the final parts of the book.

The audio itself worked well too. I liked that the two main characters had different narrators so it was easier to follow along and connecting the characters with the voices made me feel like I was listening to old friends tell me about their experiences.

I highly recommend for fans of drama/mysteries (think: Sally Hepworth) and who enjoy hearing about court cases. The fact that this book is written by Marcia Clark makes the story even more interesting!

Content Rating: PG-13

Synopsis:

When Charlie Blair left Chicago behind—and her old life as Lauren Claybourne—for a gig in the Santa Cruz DA’s office, things were supposed to be easier. Or at least nothing that a couple of Xanax and a tumbler of vodka couldn’t handle. The plan had been working, until the murder of a local bail bondsman Shelly Hansen.

Enter: hot-shot prosecutor Erika Lorman, she of the stellar record and unfailing touch with juries, a veritable legend in her own right. Fresh off the prosecution of celebrity chef Blake Steers, the newest resident of California’s penitentiary system and perhaps its most high profile, she’s thrust back into action alongside her new co-chair from the windy city and ready to do anything to put criminals behind bars.

But as the fevered search for answers intensifies and the hunt for a killer continues, secrets from the past threaten to undo not just the case—but Erika and Charlie, too. Expertly plotted and relentlessly paced, The Fall Girl will keep readers guessing until the very end.
